Schumacher's Manager Claims Alonso-Ferrari Move "Logical"

After so many months of constant rumoring regarding Fernando Alonso's move to Ferrari, it would really be something for the Spaniard to continue with Renault in Formula One. And a mistake, Willi Weber might add, as Michael Schumacher's long-time manager has no doubts on who the strongest F1 driver is at the moment.

I don't know it for sure, but it would be the logical change for both sides,” said Weber, when asked to express his opinion on the Alonso-Ferrari rumors.

Fernando Alonso is the best driver in the world currently. If I had any input with Ferrari I would put him under contract immediately, and I suspect they see it exactly the same way,” added the German manager for the Sport Bild.

The 67-year old manager is currently overseeing the career of rising star Nico Hulkenberg but had no problem admitting Alonso is arguably the best driver there is in Formula One right now. Although his deal with Renault is due to expire at the end of 2010, Alonso will presumably switch to Ferrari from as early as next year, replacing Kimi Raikkonen.

According to recent reports from both Spanish and Italian media, the official announcement of Alonso's move will be made during this year's Italian Grand Prix, at Monza. However, both parties have insistently denied all allegations on the subject.

Under the circumstances, it's more than likely that Michael Schumacher will leave the Scuderia at the end of this year, as his deal as consultant for the Maranello team is due to expire at the end of 2009. Weber actually hinted, earlier this year, that the 7-time world champion is seeking a more active role in Formula One from 2010 onwards. And a potential move to Brawn GP, where he'll join his former Ferrari manager Ross Brawn, has been strongly suggested by the media in recent weeks.
