Schumacher's Doctors Not Present at Jerez

Michael Schumacher's fans from all over the world will be happy to find out that their favorite driver is no longer in need of continuous observation from his team of doctors, prior to his return to Formula One.

A couple of weeks ago we have reported to you that Schuey was joined by two of his doctors during the first test session of the off-season, in Valencia (including his personal doctor Johannes Peil), also counting as his first F1 test in more than 2 years – after his retirement, he used to test for Ferrari a couple of times through the 2007 season.

Although he didn't experience any signs of physical discontent during his GP2 test last month – except for some minor neck pain during day one of that meeting – Schumacher wanted to make sure everything was all-right once he'd step into a real F1 car.

The 7-time world champion had crashed out while testing a motorcycle in the German Superbike Championship last February. Although he had surgery at the time, the pain in his neck continued to give him plenty of headaches in the summer of 2009, when scheduled to return to F1 in a Ferrari car. He had to cancel his comeback because the injury prevented him from surviving the effort of driving an F1 car at competitive level.

However, during the Jerez test last week, Schumacher's doctors were nowhere to be seen in the Mercedes GP garage, with the German driver later admitting he no longer needs supervision when testing.

He (Peil) was in Valencia to do some checks, as he has been with me very often in the past. We wanted to make sure I am best prepared, and obviously I am, as we both didn't see the necessity to have him join me in Jerez,” said Schumacher, according to F1's official site.
