Schumacher Insists He Is Not a Magician

While some might be surprised at Michael Schumacher for being quite satisfied with his 6th place finish in the season opening Bahrain Grand Prix, the 41-year old German insisted that there is nothing more one can ask of him in the early stages of the 2010 campaign. Having missed the last 3 years of F1 action, the 7-time world champion pointed out the positive aspects of his F1 return.

First of all, he wanted to make it very clear that he is not a magician, therefore people should not expect of him to get into a car and drive it to victory lane right away.

I know that people have a lot of trust in me and I'm proud of that, but then I'm not a magician either. I'm just human. I've been around long enough to know what it takes, how much attention to details and how important little fine-tuning is, and you can't expect me to just be there straightaway,” said Schumacher in Melbourne, according to ITV.

In general I was quite happy - I had a good start, a clean race, and no mistakes. The lap times were competitive for the standard of the car. I wasn't dreaming kicking everyone's arse, but neither was I kicked, so I'm okay,” added the German ace.

Nevertheless, he also pointed out that even if he gets himself up to the speed in a few weeks time, it is still a fact that his team has a lot of catching up to do before challenging the front-runners Red Bull and Ferrari.

We have a fair amount to catch up. The matter of fact is that we are a new team and we have to develop ourselves. The car was started long before it was clear which drivers would be on board,” added Schu, hinting that both the W01 have to be adjusted to the Mercedes drivers' racing style in due time.
