Schumacher's Car Adjusted to His Driving Style for Australia

The Australian Grand Prix will be a good chance for Michael Schumacher to return to front-running spots of the 2010 classification, especially since his team has been working flat out to adjust the Mercedes W01 to his driving style. According to German publication Bild, the German had a hard time driving the understeering W01 in Bahrain, but the problem seems to have been partially solved in the last few weeks.

We cannot build a new car, but we can work on it in the wind tunnel,” Schumacher was quoted as saying by the Bild newspaper, and his team did just that during the past couple of weeks.

Although the car is yet to be adapted to Schumacher's driving style, it is believed the 41-year old will find it more natural to race the W01 on the Albert Park circuit as compared to his Bahrain outing.

In recent weeks, several members of his staff – including former manager Willi Weber and brother Ralf Schumacher – confirmed for the media that he is yet to feel comfortable in the Mercedes cockpit. The 7-time world champion himself admitted that getting used to the new tires is something he finds particularly hard to do, but that he plans to adjust his car accordingly in the months to come.

Since testing is banned through the duration of the Formula One season, the only way the Brackley mechanics can work on the car are through the practice sessions of each grand prix and wind tunnel work.

The base is good and the team is working hard to achieve the next development steps,” added Mercedes' motorsport director Norbert Haug earlier this week.
