Schumacher Backs Ferrari in Quit Threat

Former 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher agrees 100% with Ferrari's decision to pull out of the Formula One Championship if the FIA will not revise the two-tier technical concept from the 2010 regulations.

Although he retired from racing at the end of 2006, the German ace remained with the Scuderia as a race advisor. Despite the fact that his role with the Maranello based team is not very clear – as showed by several media reports recently – his heart is definitely with the prancing horse, as he insisted F1 could not go on without Ferrari.

FIA president Max Mosley said more than once that the sport could very well live without the Italian manufacturer, despite its long participance in F1. Schumacher begged to differ, however, stressing the importance of having the all-red cars in the Great Circle.

I am in complete agreement with my team. Ferrari is very important to formula one, because without Ferrari, the championship would be a second-class competition. There must be an agreement that makes it possible for the Scuderia to remain. F1 without Ferrari seems unimaginable to me,” said Schumacher for Spanish newspaper Marca.

Despite the several quit threats issued by 80% of the F1 manufacturers – Ferrari, Renault, BMW and Toyota – Mosley did not back off of the 2010 regulations one bit, during the London meeting with the FOTA representatives last Friday. In fact, he even warned the teams that will not submit their applications for the 2010 entry list until May 29 that they'll receive financial penalties or even risk staying one year out (if their places will be taken by other teams).
