Sand-X, the Desert's Snowmobile

We adore purpose-built machines, especially when it comes to vehicles that offer extreme sensations, such as the Sand-X All Terrain Vehicle (ATV).This is a vehicle which was engineered to run on sand. Its story is pretty simple: the Swiss snowboard champion Urs Eiselin imagined a hybrid that would combine the qualities of a quad bike with those of a snowmobile, with the Sand-X being the real-life result of his dreams.

The vehicle is powered by a Rotax fuel-injected two stroke 800cc engine that offers an impressive 160 hp. The powerplant uses a special liquid cooling system, that prevents it from overheating, regardless of the climate it operates in.

Its chassis uses an aluminum “tunnel” design, with with jet-ski-type runner boards instead of foot pegs, while its suspension allows it to drive on tarmac, mud or snow. The vehicle has a low center of gravity, a feature that minimizes its tip over risk.

The Sand-X offers staggering performance as it only needs 2.8 seconds to reach 60 mph and has a top speed of 114 mph (183 km/h).

The ATV is now a popular item in the Middle East with its first dealership in the UAE. Considering how much sand they have in the area, that doesn’t surprise us in the least bit. Now, if you happen to be in the area riding on a camel and you see this speed monster zooming past you, don’t worry, it’s not a mirage. You’re actually seeing the latest and soon-to-be-in-demand ‘toy for the big boy,” stated the press release.
