Each day in the United States alone more than 9 people are killed and around 1,153 are injured in crashes that involve a distracted driver. Even though it’s dangerous, it seems more and more people can’t stop touching their phones while holding the wheels. This is why a group of IT guys from Romania and the Netherlands thought a reward-app would solve this.
As opposed to finding a device that police would use to catch those who are texting while driving their cars, Romania’s SafeDrive app wants to encourage good behaviour by giving points to those that drive responsibly, points they later use as discounts on products and services.

Each user creates an account and starts earning points by loading it up before they start their car. Depending on how long the trip is, drivers gather up points. The only thing they can’t do is touch the phone. If they do, the app warns them that they will lose any points gained for the journey if they chose to continue.

Use the points to buy stuff

Then drivers are able to trade the collected points for products and services from SafeDrive’s partners. Users can also track their trip histories and compare their results with friends.

Created by Romanian KNS and Dutch XL Team software developers, SafeDrive is trying to improve traffic safety, while getting people the discounts on products and services they need. Feel free to take a closer look at it in the presentation below.
