The fact that most of the countries are constantly investing billions in research and development in order to find better combat technologies is no big news. But the ex soviet country appears to have this constant need to stand out. Reports are now in that Russia is in fact working on a new cargo aircraft that will be able to travel with incredibly high speeds while still caring heavy loads on board.
One of the Russian media networks was the one to spread the news the other day and it appears the next generation airplane is part of the country’s big investment plan to renew the army’s air fleet. The squadrons of heavy transport aircraft will reportedly be capable of moving a strategic unit of 400 Armata tanks, with ammunition, anywhere in the world.

According to a new design specification from the Military-Industrial Commission in Moscow, quoted by Russia Today, the new aircraft dubbed PAK TA will fly at supersonic speeds (up to 2,000 km/h) and will boast an impressively high payload of up to 200 tons. And all these while being capable of a 7,000 kilometers range, similar to what trans-Atlantic airplanes are currently capable of, minus the load and the speed of course.

Moreover, Russia reportedly plans to build not one, but 80 of these high-tech airplanes by 2024. Even though this big fellow will be capable of flying high and fast, it would seem it’s not going to join combat in any way. PAK TA is designed to transport heavy missile tanks, enhanced self-propelled artillery weapons systems, anti-aircraft missile complexes, tactical missile carriers, multiple launch missile systems and other such specific gear.

Not to act all distrustful, but considering how secretive the Russian government usually is with their most esteemed projects, we find it quite hard to believe such information actually leaked. It rather sounds like a game both Western countries and Russia are playing, in which they keep showing their military muscles to each other, especially since the events in Ukraine went on. But we'll leave you guys to be the judge of what's really going on.
