In normal conditions, leaving your manual in first gear is enough to secure a parked car. After all, winter is coming and you don’t want to have to deal with a frozen handbrake cable. But, in some circumstances that little lever is crucial.
We’re not talking about doing handbrake turns, but about regular mechanical work. Securing a car is especially important when dealing with inclines, ramps and any kind of car lifting.

But these Russians haven’t heard of that rule and pay a hefty price. While placing an older generation Audi A3 in storage, this man discovers just how useful the handbrake can be. As the car starts rolling off the overhead ramp, he tries to stop it with his hands but fails.The A3 comes tumbling down and almost crushes he. About 1.4 tones of German build quality could have easily killed him.
