Little did BMW engineers know what they were about to embark on when they created the E21 models back in the 70s. They were about to create the most popular model in BMW’s history and reigning king of the compact sedan segment for almost 40 years: the 3 Series.

The car they built and offered to the public was based on the legendary 2002 model that is in the spotlight these days because of the 2 Series and yet, it was different in many ways. It was so good that 1,364,039 were built in just 7 years, a record for those times and hard to beat even today.

The thing that made it so great was the way it drove. It was the same car that first gave marketing people the idea of selling BMW cars with the ‘ultimate driving machine’ motto, 30 years later. As we said before: once a classic, always a classic.

Therefore, it’s easy to see why someone would adopt such a car even today, nearly 40 years after its launch and we’d expect that from a European guy, or maybe a BMW freak from NY or California, but the South?

Yes, even in the South people love old BMWs and Tennessee’s own Cory Hutchinson is one of those guys.
He has a beautiful 1983 Alpine White BMW E21 320IS sitting on his driveway and he’s not afraid to use it. His car is mostly stock but the way Cory cares for her is hard to describe. However, the guys from Stance Works did a pretty good job at explaining it in this article. Enjoy!
