Wearing the Scars of the Past: Andrew’s IMSA BMW E9 CSL

It was 1975 when this car was built but to this day it runs like it never left the assembly lines of the Munich-based company that built it. We’re talking, of course, about a IMSA BMW E9 CSL, better known as a Batmobile, around the racing tracks of the 70s and early 80s.

This particular one belongs to a modest guy that knows what his baby can do, by the name of Andrew Cannon. His car is one that has seen a lot of asphalt in its lifetime and has the scars to show for it.

Looking over its controversial body and it’s special shape, this E9 CSL will amaze you with such things like vintage logos, various decals of once racing teams and all the way down to the stickers saying ‘STUCK/POSEY’ on the roof.

That’s the legacy the two legendary race car drivers left this car after they raced it in the 12 hours of Sebring in 1975. The two weren’t the only drivers ever to get behind the wheel of this car.

In 1976, in the ETCC Series in Europe, Vasek Polak took over and wrote even more history with it, leaving his signature on its windshield.

In the end, the Rolex Monterey weekend was where this baby crashed and got drag away from the Laguna Seca track, covered with a blue rag, to save people from seeing such a legend in a totaled shape. However, we’re sure that it will soon be rebuilt and taken back to the tracks it loves so much, just like in those old movies about horses and their magical recoveries.

Either way, the photo gallery below stands as perfect testimony as to how many miles this Batmobile covered in its long and prosperous life. They speak of its true spirit and the passion people always had to racing BMWs.
