The Russian car market was among the hardest hit my the crisis. With credit tightening and buying power diminishing, the Rissan halved their demand for new cars from the levels of 2007 and 2008.
But now the market is returning to form, with a 10 percent increase in June. According to the figures released by the Moscow-based Association for European Businesses (AEB), the 272,125 cars sold in June are the best monthly figures since July 2008.
The AEB says it expects the market to close the year with figures in excess of 2.8 million cars, following a consolidation in the second half.
Russia is also becoming a manufacturing hub, as GM, Ford and Fiat are all investing in the country. Production of the new Opel Astra sedan and a number of Chevrolet models are expected to be produced in St. Petersburg.
