Valentino Ross will become the rider with the most Grand Prix starts in the World Championship when he leaves the starting grid at Sepang, Malaysia, this Sunday. So far, he is on par with another huge legend in motorcycle racing, Loris Capirossi, both with 328 starts across all classes.
Still, the figure is even more interesting when broken down a bit. Capirossi, who is still connected to GP racing as he is a MotoGP Safety Officer, only took 217 starts in the premier class, whereas Rossi already has a whopping 268 MotoGP/500cc starts to his name.

When it comes to the intermediate class, Capirossi has the upper hand, having started 84 races, compared to only 30 Moto2/250cc rounds for The Doctor. In the smallest class of the championship, the situation is almost even, with Capirossi and Rossi having 27 and 30 starts, respectively.

Regarding total GP races, Jack Findlay is third in the world ranking, with 282 starts, followed by Alex Barros, who also trails Rossi closely in the premier class starts, with 245. Angel Nieto only took one MotoGP/500cc start, but he took part in 265 races. Brno Kneubuhler has one start less, and is followed by Alex De Angelis and Randy de Puniet, with 262 and 253 GP starts, respectively.

Rossi started 328 of the 866 GP rounds since the beginning of the world championship

The first GP racing event took place in 1949 and no less than 866 rounds were staged since then. Rossi's 328 starts account for 37.9% of all the GP events ever staged.

The Italian rider raced on 36 different GP circuits around the world and has a record of earning at least one point in 89.6% of the races he started. This means finishing in a point scoring position 294 times. His win rate is also amazing, as Rossi won more than one third of the races he started - 112 rounds or 34.1%.

Finally, he has finished on the podium on 210 occasions (64% of his race count) and competed most times at a single circuit at Jerez (20 rounds).
