Ron Bloom, the New Manufacturing Tzar

The Obama administration appointed Treasury Department official, Ron Bloom, as the man in charge of the country's manufacturing sector "road to recovery". Bloom will also maintain his role as senior advisor to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, in charge of President Obama's auto task force.

"It's a sign that we're on the right track to economic recovery, but that we still have a long way to go," Obama said in the announcement, quoted by Autonews. "We must do more to harness the power of American ingenuity and productivity so that we can put people back to work and unleash our full economic potential."

"As we meet the challenges of globalization and technological change, it is vital to have a concerted effort across the administration to support an innovative, vibrant manufacturing sector," Bloom added.

According to the White House, Bloom will work together with government departments including Commerce, Treasury, Energy and Labor, for the creation of new initiatives to be implemented in the manufacturing sector.

From the automotive sector, so far only one company expressed their position regarding the new appointment: GM. The company both salutes the appointment and expresses its thanks to Bloom for the role he played in GM's swift bankruptcy process.

"Manufacturing is essential to America's strength and economy and we applaud the President's appointment of Mr. Bloom to this important position. The President's recognition of Mr. Bloom's work is well deserved. His leadership within the Auto Task Force helped GM emerge from its restructuring a more strong and viable company in record time," GM said in a release.

"We're confident Mr. Bloom's counsel and expertise also will benefit U.S. manufacturing on a broader scale. GM looks forward to his continued leadership in this expanded role."
