Nothing better to get you in the Christmas mood: a roadside weed in Toledo, Ohio has become a tourist attraction after someone put some Christmas decorations on it about 2 weeks ago.

It’s now known as the “Toledo Christmas Weed” and is so covered in tinsels, decorations and blinking lights that you can barely see it anymore. It’s drawing visitors from all over the town but also from nearby areas.

If you also consider that the Weed has its own Facebook page, as ABC13 says it does, then you know for a fact that it’s a celebrity. The most important part, though, is that it’s bringing the community together to do some good: as the AP video at the bottom of the page shows, visitors also leave behind donations.

The Weed was just a weed on a crosswalk island a mere fortnight ago. This is when someone got the idea to make it more festive in appearance, by decking it with decorations. Since then, more people have added their own contributions: lights, glass decorations, Santa hats, wrapped presents, and there is even a guy dressed as Santa entertaining visitors. Then, a dead potted plant was brought and it too was decorated accordingly.

Now, both weed and plant are surrounded by stuff visitors leave behind: sweets and food items, blankets and toys. If that’s not the definition of making lemonade out of the lemons life throws at you, we don’t know what is. Authorities in Toledo say that all the donations will be distributed to local charities.

Police do have a warning for potential tourists: “If you plan to visit the Christmas weed itself Toledo police are urging you to be careful. It sits on a crosswalk island where there's heavy traffic,” ABC13 writes.

If you’re feeling generous or just curious, now’s the time to get in the Christmas spirit with a little help from the Toledo Christmas Weed.
