The boring but much safer future where cars won’t necessarily need a driver is one step closer now, with Swiss auto-modding wizard Rinspeed presenting the Tesla Model S-based XchangE autonomous driving concept at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.
As most automakers are currently developing an testing self-driving technologies, Rinspeed draw inspiration from all of them and created the ultimate concept on how autonomous cars will perform in the near future.

Representing the 20th crazy concept vehicle of the Swiss think tank and “mobility lab”, the XchangE is based on a Tesla Model S and comes with new front and rear bumpers, side skirts, glass roof and an interesting color theme, complimented by the 20-inch Borbet alloy wheels.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg, as the car boasts an impressive collection of sensors and systems, which can read every parameter of the vehicle along with everything surrounding the car in order to keep it going without human input.

This way, passengers can totally relax in highly adjustable captain chairs, watch TV, read a book or simply chill and admire the view. The fly-by-wire steering wheel comes with palm recognition for detecting the owner and when not used, it slides on the middle of the dashboard.

Speaking about the dashboard, this is basically a huge screen with two rails for the steering to slide on. The 1.2-meter touchscreen replaces any additional instrument panel and even backs up as an infotainment system.
