The Mach 1 debuted in 1969, immediately impacting Ford's lineup. The new nameplate turned the Mustang GT into a redundant offering, causing its sales to drop to just 5,400 units. The Mach 1 was the new cool kid on the block, with over 72,000 units sold in its first year on the market.
Ford slightly refined the Mach 1 for the 1970 model year, with the engine lineup migrating from Windsor engines to Cleveland. The standard 351 with a 2-barrel carburetor produced 250 horsepower (like the 351W it replaced), while the 4-barrel produced 300 horsepower.

The 390 was no longer available on the 1970 Mach 1, but Ford continued to offer the 428 Cobra Jet with 335 horsepower. Installed on R-code Mach 1s, the 428 made its way to 857 units in 1970. One of them is right here in tip-top shape.

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out in a couple of seconds that this Mach 1 has already been restored. However, the overhaul is impressive, as the overhaul included a refresh of every single part. The Mach 1 is now a show car, with everything in tip-top shape and ready for someone's collection or a museum.

The Mach 1 rolled off the assembly lines with plenty of options, including the desirable Shaker Hood, air conditioning, power front disc brakes, and power steering.

However, it also comes with a rare combo. Classic Cars West, the garage in charge of finding a new owner for this Mach 1, says the few Mach 1s left the factory with air conditioning and a 4-speed transmission on a Cobra Jet – they also have the Marti report to back their claims, so make sure you ask for the documents if you're committed to a purchase.

There's one last bit that could become a deal breaker for someone interested in an all-original Mach 1. The car no longer has the original engine but a correct 1970 428 clock. As you can guess, it starts, runs, and drives like a new engine, as the Cobra Jet has also been refreshed during the restoration. The odometer indicates just 1K miles.

A "standard" Mach 1 is typically a highly desirable car selling with a hefty price tag, so you can imagine that a Cobra Jet engine and a show condition make the price go through the roof. The garage wants close to $90K for the car, and the price makes perfect sense, considering the fully restored shape. You can find the car in Oakland, California, and despite the perfect working condition, you should take the Mach 1 home on a trailer, as you wouldn't want a show car to spend too much on the road.
