A UK rental car company decided to add Rivian's all-electric pickup truck to its fleet. Whilst that's a great thing for the Irvine-based automaker because it helps with brand awareness, the cost to make the R1T temporarily yours will not get many curious people to drive one. Renting it costs an arm and a leg, no matter how you look at it.
There's no denying that Rivian made quite an impact in North America. Its EVs are cool, practical, and have a certain appeal to them that makes even Europeans curious. Some even imported their own R1S or R1T to places like Ireland or Poland despite not having access to an authorized service center over the pond. A couple of R1Ts are even roaming around an African reservation.

Last year, we told you about Sixt, one of Europe's largest rent-a-car companies, and its plans to import Rivian's zero-emission pickup truck and SUV. That would have signaled an important development for the American EV maker as it could have meant the switch to CCS Combo 2 and maybe even the establishment of a service center. Sadly, it didn't work out.

As things stand today, Rivian is officially sending just the EDV to Europe. From 2026 onwards, the young automaker might also export the R2-series to some specific markets on the Old Continent.

But entrepreneurs understood that Rivian could have the same effect on people as Tesla did back in the day. EVision, a UK-based rental car company, bought an R1T and added it to its fleet. Even though they can only fast-charge the pickup truck with a CCS Combo 1 to CCS Combo 2 adapter, the entity wanted to be among the first to offer such an opportunity to curious people.

If you visit the UK and want to drive an American vehicle on European roads, the 835-hp R1T is there for you. But don't say we didn't warn you: the rates aren't very attractive.

Renting Rivian's pickup truck for a single day will set you back £990 ($1,200) with the value-added tax (VAT) included. You'll only be able to drive 150 miles without incurring an extra cost of $0.28 per mile.

To put that figure in perspective, financing a quad-motor R1T paired with the large-pack energy storage unit is only slightly more expensive: with a downpayment of $10,000 over a 72-month period results in a monthly car note of $1,452.

This company also requires its customers to be at least 30 years old. You'll have to find your own comprehensive insurance if you're younger. As such, that's another extra cost.

The Glacier White quad-motor R1T can also be rented for more extended periods, but the costs don't look any better. A week with this Rivian EV in the UK will set you back £3,114 ($3,776) and £5,994 ($7,268) for a month.

Things get slightly cheaper if you're willing to spend more time with the pickup truck:
  • £5,274 ($6,395) per month if you extend the rental agreement for one full year;
  • £5,034 ($6,104) per month if you want to keep it for two years;
  • £4,794 ($5,813) per month if you don't want to leave it to someone else for three years.

Finally, one can only wonder – is it worth it? You let us know. One thing's for sure: great EVs aren't meant for everyone just yet.

Car shows on TV and his father's Fiat Tempra may have been Florin's early influences, but nowadays he favors different things, like the power of an F-150 Raptor. He'll never be able to ignore the shape of a Ferrari though, especially a yellow one.
