Renault UK has announced that the Avantime Owners Club 10th anniversary meeting takes place at the Coventry Motor Museum on Saturday, April 7 from 9am. Those who pre-register will receive a... book for their loyalty to a strange car.
Th Avantime might not be a very pretty car, but like many French designs it pushed the boundaries of what we think is possible. Can you imagine what the world though of this vehicle in 2002, when the VW Golf was still a Mk IV and the Ford Focus was in its infancy, with an asymmetrical blue dash?
The Avantime was supposed to be a grand tourer coupe according to Renault, but although it had a sportscar engine, it had an MPV body. However, there still aren’t any mainstream production cars with double-hinged doors like this.
But the world wasn’t ready for it, and only 12 moths were enough for it to be withdrawn form the market. Still, with a 210 bhp V6 engine, more glass than a greenhouse and a top speed of 140 mph, we find it quite amazing, and so do its fans.
