The Japanese automaker had an ample vision for the inaugural edition of the Japan Mobility Show, currently in its general public access days. But people in America only have eyes for the current models, not the hypothetical future iterations.
Toyota came to the event formerly known for almost seven decades as the Tokyo Motor Show with a bag full of conceptual goodies – from three-wheeled mobility prototypes like the Land Hopper to the FT-3e and FT-Se future crossover and sports car EVs and from boxy modular ideas to the EPU and Land Cruiser Se all-electric concepts. Nothing from GR, though, if we don't count the FT-Se – a potential preview of a revived MR2 – which only had the division's badging.
As such, maybe it's wiser to try and see what Toyota Gazoo Racing could do with the current roster – rather than wait and see for a few years to check out a hypothetical MR2 rebirth. Anyway, in America, the GR division did flaunt a trio of special editions for the 2024 model year – GR86 Trueno, GR Corolla Circuit Edition, and the GR Supra 45th Anniversary already. But what if that's not enough?
Well, then, we need to pay a visit to the imaginative realm of digital car content creators and see what they have in store for us. The potential need for additional GR models easily persuades some of these pixel masters – we have already seen the good folks over at the AutoYa channel attempt to design an unofficial 2025 Toyota Tacoma GR as the most powerful and fastest mid-size pickup truck in an effort to sway fans away from the mighty Ford Ranger Raptor.
Now, though, it's time for another best seller to adorn the GR attire. Dimas Ramadhan, the virtual automotive artist behind the Digimods DESIGN channel on YouTube, has taken up the task of revealing a 2025 Toyota RAV4 GR Sport. Not only that, but the popular compact crossover SUV is also redesigned – it sports the GR Sport elements on top of a third potential refresh of the current XA50 fifth generation.
As always, not all details are on par with the real world's possibilities – we imagine that an RAV4 GR Sport won't have GR badges all over the place like this unofficial redesign. On the other hand, sporting the triple exhaust setup from the GR Corolla is an intriguing possibility – especially if it comes with the 1.6-liter three-cylinder shared with the GR Yaris and packs a little more than the 300 horsepower it displays in GR Corolla attire. So, if ever real, would you buy a 300+ horsepower RAV4 GR Sport instead of the affordable ($31,475) 2024 RAV4 Hybrid or a $38k RAV4 TRD Off-Road version, for example?
