Red Bull Sign Sebastian Vettel Until 2011

Red Bull Racing might have hit the jackpot prior to the European Grand Prix at Valencia, even before the Sunday race. According to a press release from the Milton Keynes team, Sebastian Vettel has been confirmed at Red Bull for the upcoming 2 years, until the end of 2011. In addition, the contract has an extension clause for 2012 as well.

That means the German driver will no longer be the subject of media speculations in the next few years. Moreover, today's announcement means Red Bull are officially the first team to have their 2010 drivers lineup officially confirmed. With none of the two drivers under pressure to secure a drive for next year, they can now focus on the title fight in the upcoming 7 rounds.

Red Bull Racing is pleased to announce that it has extended its contract with Sebastian Vettel until the end of 2011, with an option for 2012. He has already won two grands prix this year – in China and the UK – bringing his GP win total to three and he currently lies third in the 2009 Formula One Drivers’ Championship,” a short statement from Red Bull read this morning.

Less than a month ago, Red Bull also confirmed it has completed a one-year extension with Webber, only a few days after the Aussie won his first race in Formula One, at the Nurburgring.

I'm delighted that we have re-signed Mark for 2010. He has continued to show huge commitment and determination this season, especially following his bike accident at the end of last year. We believe that the driver line-up of Mark and Sebastian (Vettel) is one of the strongest in the sport,” said Red Bull's team principal Christian Horner at the time.

The two RBR drivers are currently 2nd (Webber) and 3rd (Vettel) in the overall classification, within a 23-point margin to championship leader Jenson Button. As announced by the Milton Keynes team recently, none of the two drivers are currently being favored for the title fight, but such a decision is expected to be made later this season.
