Red Bull Eyes Rosberg for F1 Future?

With Mark Webber's contract coming to an end this year, almost every comment related to any F1 driver out there coming from the mouth of a Red Bull official tends to resemble an offer for a future seat alongside Sebastian Vettel.

After the whole Red Bull-Lewis Hamilton discussion consumed itself in recent weeks, it's time for another driver to step into the rumor mill, namely Nico Rosberg. As Hamilton, the German racer has a binding contract with his own team (Mercedes GP) until the end of the 2012 campaign, but sources close to the matter suggest that he could theoretically escape from his current contract at the end of 2011.

Until that's figured out properly, we can only get on record the latest comment made by Red Bull's motorsport advisor Helmut Marko – the man responsible with the drivers programme within the Red Bull organization – regarding Rosberg, as the Austrian praised the 25-year old for a job well done against teammate and 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher.

Nico is a strong driver,” said Marko, referring to the way the German conducted himself in his in-team duel with the 42-year old F1 ace.

Although we don't know exactly how Rosberg would escape from his contract with Mercedes GP, some might assume it would have to have something to do with the uncompetitive nature of his car. However, talking to the media earlier this week, Rosberg insisted his team is “focused on our fightback”, while Merc's motorsport director Norbert Haug insisted his team is yet to give up on its 2011 campaign.

Our car certainly has its strengths and weaknesses. We will remove the weaknesses gradually and be competitive,” said Haug.
