Last year proved to be the best in corporate history for BMW. With a total of 1,845,186 units delivered in 2012, the groups profits increased to €76.8 billion ($99 billion) and the group profit rose to €5.1 billion ($6.6 billion).
The year-on-year group revenues increased by 11.7%, reaching €76,848 million ($99 million) over the €68,821 million ($88,918 million) recorded in 2011. “The past year has been the most successful year in BMW Group’s corporate history, with new high levels achieved for sales volume, revenues and Group earnings. We have achieved or surpassed all of our targets for 2012 in the face of very challenging market conditions", stated Norbert Reithofer, the Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG on Thursday in Munich.
Another good news from the Bavarian manufacturer is that the divided is going to be raised to €2.50 ($3.23) per share of common stock and €2.52 ($3.25) per share of preferred stock. Those numbers mean that the total distribution will add up to €1,64 billion ($2,12 billion). "The increased dividend reflects the BMW Group's excellent performance in 2012 as well as the underlying strength of its earnings and financial position" commented Friedrich Eichiner, member of the Board of Management responsible for Finance.
2013 looks even better, judging by the numbers recorder in the year's first two months. In January and February BMW sales broke new records and the the German company has even bigger plans for the remaining of the year. "We are again targeting further sales volume growth worldwide in 2013 and hence a new record level for deliveries. However, economic conditions are likely to remain challenging in many markets. The BMW Group is preparing for tomorrow's technological challenges and is setting the course for further growth and profitability", said Reithofer.
