Following last week's article about BMW sales in February we can now confirm that due to the good numbers the German manufacturer recorded, it managed to overcome Audi and regained the number one spot since losing it in 2005.
The main contributors to gaining this lead were the best sellers X1 and F30 3 Series. With a total sales increase of 7 percent in February and Audi registering only a 3.2 percent increase, BMW became the world's best selling luxury car brand. The total difference between the 2 German companies was of only 407 cars.

However, Mercedes-Benz, BMW's long time rival had a terrible February, sales slipping 5.8 percent last month, selling 37,229 less vehicles than the Bavarian manufacturer. The Stuttgart based company hopes that things will turn around along with the future new models that are to be released later this year.

At the Munich based company on the other hand, factories are working overtime in order to keep up with the demand according to BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer. Raising demand from the Chinese and US markets helped overcome the worst numbers recorded in Europe since 1990 and pushed BMW to the number 1 spot.
