Record Profit for BMW in 2010

Having begun the new year in force, German auto maker BMW released today its financial figures for 2010, showing that the improvements in sales for the months of January and February are a natural consequence of the results of 2010.

The German manufacturer says that it has managed to a profit before tax of EUR4,836 million and total revenues of EUR60,477 million, an increase of 19.3 percent compared to the previous year. The net profit for the year, a new record figure for the company, stands at EUR3,234 million.

The great figures come from the fact that the auto maker managed to achieve the second-best ever performance in its history, selling a total of 1,461,166 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brand vehicles and surpassing the target it set for itself for 2010.

As a result of the strong performance achieved in 2010, BMW plans to reward its shareholders by increasing the dividend significantly, from EUR0.30 to EUR1.30 per share of common stock and from EUR0.32 to EUR1.32 per share of preferred stock. The new numbers represent all-time highs for BMW's shares.

“We are extremely pleased with developments over the past financial year. We have set new records for revenues and group earnings and have more than achieved our targets for the full year,” said Norbert Reithofer, BMW chairman of the board.

“We now want our shareholders to participate in this success by paying a record-level dividend. Our attractive model range and continued rigorous implementation of our Strategy Number ONE enabled us to improve profitability and efficiency significantly in 2010.“
