Unfortunately for old-school fans of General Motors, the options to buy passenger cars from them are shrinking as we speak. But that's only valid in the real world, actually.
Chevrolet, for example, is preparing to wave goodbye to the slow-selling sixth-generation Camaro pony car, and the iconic nameplate is not getting a replacement anytime soon. On the other hand, Cadillac still offers a few options – the traditional CT4 and CT5 sedans along with the quirky Celestiq fully-electric fastback. Sporty preferences are also well met with the C8 Corvette and the CT4-V plus CT5-V and the Blackwings.

Unfortunately, Buick – at least in America – is not part of the passenger car party. Instead, GM has ordained a crossover SUV lifestyle for the brand. At least the choice is far and wide: Encore GX, Envision, Enclave, all with both Sport Touring and Avenir Line up for grabs. Even better, the three series have been refreshed and now have a modern, streamlined appearance. Plus, there is also the first-ever Envista base crossover starting at just $22,400 – a compact CUV built on the same platform as the Chevy Trax.

However, notice something peculiar – all Buicks revolve around the compact and mid-size sectors and share many design traits. That could easily fool the uninitiated into thinking that all Buicks are the same. So, what could be done to mitigate this perception? Well, in the real world, General Motors needs to approve the Wildcat EV into production as soon as possible and precisely as it is, rather than just foreshadowing the potential range of electric vehicles for the American brand.

Alternatively, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators has another option up its sleeve. While everyone and their mother is still infatuated with the recent start of deliveries for Tesla's Cybertruck and all the cool things it can do, Jim, the virtual artist known as jlord8 on social media, is back messing around with all things CGI from GM and Ford – and now takes a Buick revival downtown.

Usually preoccupied with old-school stuff like an Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 Convertible, a Chevy IROC S-10, or a Buick Grand National Grand Wagon and a Crown Vic-based Ford Ranchero 428 Cobra Jet, he also found time for modern things – like the beautiful Lincoln Mark IX or this "weird mashup" (his words, not ours) between a BMW M4 (hopefully the 503-hp Competition) and the Envista crossover SUV's DNA.

The result was dubbed a Buick Skylark, most likely an homage to the six-generation original two-door passenger car that lasted more than four decades. Obviously inspired by the two-door hardtop coupe models, this unofficial Buick Skylark revival is oddly envisioned according to the company's current design ethos but in a passenger car format rather than as yet another crossover SUV. Cool or not?
