Just like the Americans, the Brits like their guns too, only for different reasons. Instead of keeping them “for protection,” they use them to shoot wild animals for fun. Not the noblest thing to do, killing defenseless beasts, but that doesn’t seem to affect their aristocratic perception of themselves.
Anyway, those interested in this activity some insist on calling “sport” can now order a very exclusive SUV that should cater to their needs perfectly. Developed by the Land Rover Special Vehicles Operations (SVO) together with traditional gun maker Holland & Holland, the Holland & Holland Range Rover is as British as the Queen herself.
For one thing, its bodywork is finished in British Racing Green, a color that just happens to work fine when going hunting as well as making sure there will be no confusion regarding the car’s origins. Apart from a Union Jack plastered on each of the vehicle’s sides, it doesn’t get more British than this.
The Range Rover is a very expensive car in itself, but when the SVO division jumps in, prices tend to be fringing on ridiculous. If you remember, some big shots from Land Rover said they didn’t need to create a rival for the Bentley Bentayga, as the SVO versions of their models already cost just as much. Yeah, but do they have a $200,000 watch?
No, but they do have something that can put a very big hole in that watch, assuming the man using them has had his fair share of target practice. The Holland & Holland Range Rover comes with a gun case tucked away in the lower part of the SUV’s trunk, even though calling it just a “case” doesn’t do it justice. It’s made out of aluminum and cognac leather with the Holland & Holland logo debossed on top, and it can carry a pair of the owner’s guns in perfect safety and, it has to be said, absurd luxury.
But these two appreciations can be made for almost every part of the car, where the attention to detail and the materials used are just breathtaking. For instance, take the inside door handles that are engraved just like a gun’s stock, or the numerous wood inserts that actually come from a single 1500 mm long and 500 mm wide piece of walnut, to ensure they all have the same veneer. Is that a little too much? Maybe so, but for a car that has a starting price tag of £180,000 ($250,00), that’s what you expect.
