Raikkonen Switches Race Engineers, Gets Stella

Kimi Raikkonen will start next season with a new race engineer. In an attempt to reorganize their Formula 1 team ahead of the 2009 campaign, Ferrari has promoted Kimi's former race engineer Chris Dyer to a track engineering position within the Scuderia. Therefore, Dyer's place in guiding the former world champion throughout the 2009 season will be taken by Andrea Stella.

“Dyer's role has been assumed by Andrea Stella,” officially announced Ferrari's managing director Stefano Domenicali, according to Italian newspaper Le Stampa. Stalla will be no stranger to Kimi Raikkonen, as the two have been working together for the past 2 years, only with Stella being support engineer for Kimi's car.

Earlier this week, Ferrari's CEO insisted that Kimi Raikkonen would up his game in 2009, following a disappointing campaign last season. The Italian revealed that the Fin is more motivated than ever to go back on track and prove himself.

“I joke that we had Kimi until Magny Cours, then he was busy and he asked a friend of his to drive. This friend was a very good driver. He put on Kimi's helmet, but now we finally have the proper Kimi back again,” Montezemolo was quoted as saying by autosport.com.

“For a while he looked like a centre forward who wasn't scoring goals, but as soon as he did you knew he will be okay again. We have spoken recently and I think he is very, very determined and in good form. Let's not forget that in his first year at Ferrari he was world champion. He will be back for sure,” added Di Montezemolo.

Ferrari are still to determine whether they will begin next year with a functional KERS unit or use the same car but without the technology throughout the 2009 season.
