Raikkonen Patient on 2010 Seat, Still Wants F1 Drive

Another week has passed and there's still no word on the future of Kimi Raikkonen in the Formula One championship. The compensatory payment made by Ferrari in order for the Finn to walk away from Maranello and free a spot for Fernando Alonso seems to have made more harm than good, as none of the team principals want to let that slip when it comes to his future contract.

Brawn GP and McLaren seemed to be the best solutions for an F1 car next season, as he made it very clear that he only wants to drive a title-winning machinery in 2010. However, Ross Brawn denied interest in the former Ferrari-an because of his high contractual demands, while McLaren are only willing to sign Kimi under a low-contract fee.

Talking about his prospects for 2010, Raikkonen admitted himself that he's on the waiting list and has no idea what the future will bring him. Apart from a huge salary, his demands are pretty clear though: winning a championship next year.

It's hard to believe that I have been in Formula One for nine years already. I am very motivated to win races and a Championship again and will only remain in F1 if I can race for a team that can give me a car to fight at the front. Let's wait and see what happens,” said Raikkonen on his personal website.

Boosting his chances of returning to McLaren Mercedes is also Lewis Hamilton's father and manager Anthony, as the Brit insisted that Raikkonen would be a perfect match for his son. Having someone to push Lewis to the limit and also help the team win championships is something McLaren would definitely find in Kimi, argued Anthony Hamilton.

Kimi is the best driver that is available. Lewis and Kimi would surely goad each other in the best way to improve their performances. If I myself made the choice between Kimi or Heikki, I would take Kimi,” said Hamilton, insisting that he won't be against Heikki Kovalainen's stay either.
