New Chinese automaker Qoros will have to do a lot to impress their future buyers, and their car will have to be good, and not just skin deep. Still, the ‘skin’ is still important, and they are explaining the design philosophy behind their brand through a new video, hosted by their design chief Gert Hildebrand.
He talks at great length about the qualities required by a particular car, in order for it to look and feel premium, and he points out various design features which emphasize this, on their own cars. Also, they also show a clay model of what will ultimately become their compact SUV, which will look good, if the actual clay model is anything to go by.
Called the HQ3 Cross, it will share its platform with the company’s sedan offering, and since it was developed with Magna Steyr of Austria, we expect it to be highly competent. The styling has yet to be decided, and the aforementioned clay model showed two distinct styles (one on each side), with one being more conservative, while the other hinting at a Range Rover Evoque-esque low roofline and narrow windows - the latter is, of course, the better looking.
Engines will be shared with another Chinese automaker, Chery, and it is very likely that both the sedan and the SUV will get their power from a turbocharged 1.6-liter petrol unit. Also, factoring in the fact that the cars have been designed to achieve the maximum crash ratings at Euro NCAP, the appeal of this new brand steadily grows...
The GQ3 sedan will make its sales debut in late 2013, while the HQ3 SUV will go on sale in early 2014.
