Porsche has recently been playing with us using the 918 Spyder, with the carmaker allowing us to see multiple prototype photos, with the latest set arriving earlier this week and showing the car wearing a Martini livery.
However, it seems that the first images and a video, of the production-ready 918 Spyder have leaked onto the web. The vehicle was caught on camera during a recent presentation event, with the result being posted by Biser3a, a Lebanese car blog.
The production version looks pretty much similar to the concept that made its debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, but it does come with a few changes, such as the exhaust pipes that have been moved from the sides of the car to the engine cover (they now sit behind the driver’s and the passenger’s heads. We also get new side air intakes, exterior mirrors and door handles.
However, it is strange that the vehicle shown here uses the same wheels as the concept, with these looking a bit to extravagant to be production items, even for a Porsche. This makes us take the whole story with a grain of salt.
The Porsche 918 Spyder will use a hybrid powertrain that will include a 4.6-liter V8 delivering over 570 hp, which is matted to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, as well as two electric motors. The first electric unit powers the front wheels, while the second is part of the gearbox assembly and sends its power to the rear axle. The system offers an overall output of 770 hp.
