Quake-damaged Toyota, facing severe adversity at home, is trying its best to continue operating at normal parameters, especially when it comes to its future line of Prii vehicles. In an attempt to set aside for a moment the bad news coming from Japan, Toyota announced this week the launch of a new program meant to popularize the most successful hybrid of all times: the Prius.
The publicity stunt is called Prius Records and, using the records the car has managed to shatter over the years (mileage, sales and so on), will engage the audience to come up with new records for the model to break.
For two consecutive days, on March 30 and 31, Toyota will be broadcasting at the following link the exploits of a dedicated team of record-setting experts that will be given four Prius hybrids to play with.
The team will try and break all types of records, previously never achieved and all subject to a very short list of rules: the records the team will have to break will have to be the “craziest, most entertainingest, smartest and funnest” ever attempted.
The team has already come up with three records they will be trying to break next week: largest mural created during a 3-hour Prius Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle charge, most pool noodles that fit inside the cargo area of a Prius v and the farthest launch of a gumdrop using the windshield wiper of a Prius.
"Toyota Prius Records gives us the opportunity to engage our incredibly loyal Prius owners and enthusiasts in a highly unique way," said Bob Zeinstra, national manager, advertising and strategic planning for Toyota.
"The live streaming, record-breaking approach leverages interactive technology and provides a great catalyst for community participation."
