That Prince Charles is a champion for a variety of environmental issues is no news. He’s famously converted his vintage Aston Martin to run on bioethanol fuel made from waste wine and whey, while his involvement in various charities and groups focused on such issues is well known.
For his first all-electric car, Charles has opted for a color that is his all-time favorite, a special type of blue known as Loire blue. This color choice is not (and will not) be available to other buyers of the electric Jaguar I-Pace, so it must have added to the car’s price tag.
The I-Pace will be delivered to the Prince’s London home, Clarence House, where it will join an impressive collection comprising Range Rovers, Rolls-Royces, and Bentleys, all of them running on gasoline and diesel. Clarence House has already been fitted with a charging point for the Jaguar, the publication notes.
It also mentions this: going with the I-Pace instead of the Tesla will probably come as a heavy blow to Elon Musk since he will be missing out of major royal endorsement.
“Musk may have been hoping for a royal order after the Prince hosted the billionaire entrepreneur’s brother, Kimbal, at Dumfries House in Ayrshire, and test-drove a £73,000 Tesla Model S,” The Times says. “A royal source said Charles preferred the Jaguar’s handling to that of the Tesla.”
You know what they say: the heart wants what it wants.
