While Porsche is keeping VW busy by asking its parent to allow it to build a baby Panamera, the sports car producer still has big plans for the 911. The latest example of this comes in the form of the adjacent images. These show Porsche testing the hottest version (no GT3 fire pun intended) of the 991 generation 911 yet.
Nonetheless, rushing to call this creature names is a bit difficult at the moment. Normally, we’d say that the XXL-sized rear tires and massive wing point to a GT2 badge. For the very, very young audience, the GT2 is that 911 Turbo S with more power and RWD instead of AWD.
We'll remind you Porsche 911 product manager August Achleitner said the GT2’s future was undecided while talking to Car and Driver in January. Believing that there will be no GT2 would place a GT3 RS, or, why not, an all-new badge on this 911.
The clue probably stands in the air intakes on the rear wings - those clearly signify a turbocharged engine at the back of the car, so the GT2 is still the most likely candidate - the GT3 has always been naturally aspirate, be it RS or not, while an all-new version simply wouldn't make too much sense.
Regardless of that, the lack of camouflage on the spied car indicates that we’ll see the finished product pretty soon.
