With the first half of 2014 in the books, Porsche is primed to have yet another record-breaking sales year. Through the first six months of this year, Porsche has tallied 22,919 sales in the U.S. marking an improvement of 7.6 percent over 2013, which was the company’s best sales year ever.
Last month was an 11 percent increase over June 2013 seting a record for Porsche’s best-selling June, but more importantly, it marked the first full month of sales for the all-new 2015 Porsche Macan. The Macan went on sale in mid-May, and in the six weeks since it has been on the market, the compact performance crossover has racked up 2,026 – that’s almost as many Panameras and about half as many Boxsters and Caymans that Porsche has sold in all of 2014 so far.

Porsche was hoping that most Macan sales would come from conquest buyers, but instead it seems that the Macan might be cannibalizing sales from the Cayenne. Since the Macan went on sale, Cayenne sales have fallen off, although strong sales from February through April ensure that it is still the brand’s top-selling model. Cayenne sales are still up about 13.7 percent on the year.

As for other Porsche models, the Panamera sold 3,209 units for a 26.7 percent increase, the 911 had 6,135 sales for a 15.2 percent increase and the Boxster and Cayman (sales are combined for the two models) was up 14 percent through June with 4,484 units sold.

Porsche Cars North America president and CEO Detlev von Platen said in the press release:
“This first half of the year has been impressive on a number of fronts. Along with experiencing record-setting deliveries, we were recently recognized for the second time in a row as the top brand in the annual J.D. Power Initial Quality Study. While the Panamera came out on top of all cars surveyed, our 911 and Boxster models ranked highest in their segments. We plan to continue this momentum with a persistent cadence of new models arriving at our dealerships this year.”

In addition to putting it on pace to break another annual sales record, the 22,919 sales through June are more sales than Porsche sold in the U.S. for the entire 2009 calendar year.
