Motorsport has always been the place of birth for technical solutions used by our road cars. Porsche is definitely the most racing-addicted automotive producer in the world, with the carmaker actually using all it learns on the track to enhance our driving experience on the road.
Thus, many have asked the company whether it will release a hybrid version of the 911, since its 911 race car already uses such technology - we’re referring to the 911 GT3 R Hybrid, a vehicle that is being used for full throttle racing this season.
Porsche has previously played down rumors of a petrol-electric 911, but now that the company has a new CEO, Matthias Mueller, things seem to have changed. Mueller recently told Motor Authority that the carmaker is ready to build a hybrid 911, but only if the environmental entities will ask the company to alter its sports cars.
However, he wasn’t clear on the matter, as his statement could very well mean the adoption of downsized powerplants, not the introduction of hybrid power.
