The Porsche 911 R is the kind of car that profanes will have a hard time understanding, but also the type that easily sells itself. In fact, all 991 units had found owners before the vehicle even showed its fascia to us in Geneva.
However, while Zuffenahusen doesn't need to advertise the R, the carmaker wants to make the most out of its latest Neunelfer derivative. So we have two pieces of good news for you. Interestingly, we don't even know which one to start with, since both are brilliant.

OK, we'll go with the major announcement here - Porsche is taking the 2017 911 R racing and while that could've been expected, the uber-cool side of the adventure is that the rear-engined coupe will be used in rallying.

"Join two Porsche enthusiasts on the road to perfect vehicle control - a driving training with Porsche works driver Patrick Long. Their goal: complete a stage of the Tour de France Automobile of 1969. A homage to the legendary 911 R, which achieved an outstanding triumph in this popular rally event," the German automaker explains.

The company has announced further details on the shenanigan, but we'll be back on the matter as soon as we can. As for the driving lessons the automaker mentions, Porsche will release a new one every Friday.

For now, Patrick will initiate you into the secrets of the correct seating position, proper steering and vision control. These are the basic ingredients any motorsport recipe needs and Porsche is offering them in a video that's less than two minutes long - they're used to shortening lap times, so we fully understand this.

With the 911 R being dedicated to the thrill of driving, it's only natural to see the company pulling moves such as the ones described above.

Keep in mind that we are talking about what is currently the lightest member of the 911 line-up, as well as the second most expensive model in the range.
