Porsche Design has launched a new smartphone, but this time the base for the project is a Huawei model instead of a BlackBerry.
They call it the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9, and its makers say that it was inspired by the shape of the palm. The handset has an aluminum unibody construction.
The front is black Gorilla Glass, while the rear is brushed aluminum. You do not have to be a keen observer to notice the Leica “Summarit” dual-lens technology, which can provide pictures in 20 or 12 MP resolution.
The secondary camera has 8 MP, which is sufficient for those dreadful photos people take of themselves and post online as if something was different from one day to the next.
The handset runs the latest version of Android, and it is all put in motion by the Hisilicon Kirin 960 octa-core chipset and a whopping 6 GB of RAM memory (that is more than some entry-level laptops). The screen has a diagonal of 5.5 inches, and features a high resolution of 1440x2560 pixels.
It comes with an integrated memory that has a capacity of 256 GB, which is more than enough for most users. The battery also has a generous capacity, which is rated at 4,000 mAh.
Huawei and Porsche Design say that a quick 20-minute charge could last you a whole day. You cannot remove the battery, so keep that charger close if you are a heavy user.
Because the people that are supposed to buy this phone tend to travel a lot, the unit has dual SIM capability. There’s also a fingerprint sensor, which seems to be the norm these days for smartphones.
Customers will get a complementary flip-cover made out of leather, which has a “window” to show relevant information without opening it.
Deliveries start at the end of December, so you can make this a late Christmas present, but remember that it has a price of €1,395. American customers will not be able to buy this phone from the U.S.
