Porsche Creates Own Procurement Department

As the struggles of 2009 are slowly slipping into oblivion, German sports car manufacturer Porsche is experiencing new levels of popularity among the people in the market for a new car around the world.

The increase in demand for Porsche cars, as well as the increase in the number of models and volumes produced by Porsche determined the company's management board to create its own procurement department, which will be in charge with finding and purchasing the right parts, at the right time, in the right quantities and for the right price. Until now, the procurement was insured by the finance and business departments.

The new department, which will become operational on April 1, will be headed by Uwe-Karsten Stadter, a man with a long career in similar positions at different brands in the Volkswagen portfolio.

Stadter has been, since 2007, the head of electrics and electronics group procurement for the Volkswagen group. Before that, he was in charge with power train, metal and electrical system procurement and chemical products for interior and exterior of the Seat brand.

”Our purchasing volume is growing not only because of the current development of the economy but above all because of ambitious corporate goals which Porsche has defined for the forthcoming years,” said Matthias Muller, Porsche chairman of the board.

“This means that procurement will clearly have a greater weight in future. I am glad that we now have Uwe-Karsten Städter as a new colleague on the board of management. He is a very experienced procurement manager who has known the car industry for decades.”
