Steve McQueen's Le Mans Porsche 911S to Be Auctioned

There's nothing like pairing an A-list Hollywood actor with an extraordinary car and feature them both in one memorable film for the movie industry... On the other hand, auction houses will get a blast from selling the cars later in time, after the respective car has gained enough popularity.

We’ll see an example of that this August, when RM Auctions will send on the block a 1970 Porsche 911S, the same driven by Hollywood icon, also known as King of Cool Steve McQueen in the opening sequence of the Le Mans movie.

The car, used as an intro for the movie, was so much to the liking of the actor, that it entered his own garage. He stood in his possession for a while and ended up in the hands of someone RM Auctions calls “a prominent Porsche aficionado.”

This aficionado will sell the car starting August 19, complete with what once was the highest 1970 specification (air conditioning and a full complement of factory options) and in original condition. The car is the first entry on the list of models to be sold this summer.

"There is no more iconic racing film than Le Mans and no more charismatic owner of many of the world's great sports cars than Steve McQueen," Rob Myers, RM Auctions chairman was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.

"We are delighted to have been selected to present this iconic car at our upcoming Monterey sale. Combining a well-documented history with an exciting celebrity and screen provenance, it will make for a valuable addition to any notable car collection."
