The BMW X6 is still a very young car, the first incarnation of an idea that made BMW famous. Nowadays, you see them everywhere, even though critics originally thought they would never catch on. Sports Activity Coupes, know for short as SACs, have become so popular that not only is BMW building a successor and a smaller version called the X4, but Mercedes is planning one as well, the MLC.
As less and less people think of normal coupes as being cool, SAC-type models could be the next big thing, reinventing two markets and molding them together into one. So besides Mercedes, where's the rest of the competition in this? Audi might eventually make a Q6, though they are scaling back development of new cars. Porsche is definitely not planning a SAC yet, but if it did, it would look a little something like this.
These renderings of a Cayenne Sports Activity Coupe do take some getting used to. But we think they're actually a little better than what the other companies are making. The iconic tall shoulders of a Porsche 911 have always been designed into the Cayenne, but now they are a little more obvious. A vehicle like this would be an ideal way to have space for
Of course, this is just one idea that Porsche needs to write down, right next to all the other major niches it has yet to cover. The renderings remain pure speculation for the moment, but we have a feeling that 3 or 4 years from now, we're going to look at them and, with the benefit of hindsight, say "that was a good idea, good thing they put it into production".
