German manufacturer Porsche has just announced that its new Porsche 911 Turbo will be officially presented at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September. Leaving Porsche's financial problems aside, the company worked a lot on the new model, obtaining a substantial improvement in fuel efficiency as well as more power, higher speed and enhanced driving dynamics.
To get straight to the point, the new top of the range 911 is powered by a 3.8-liter engine that generates a maximum power of 500 bhp (368 kW). It is the first entirely new powerplant in Turbo's history that comes with Direct Fuel Injection and a Porsche turbocharger with variable turbine geometry on a gasoline power unit, the company said. Additionally, a seven-speed PDK Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (Double-Clutch Gearbox) is offered as standard.
The powertrain obviously brings a major improvement in fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions, with figures now bettered by 18 percent compared to its predecessor. The new 911 Turbo achieves 11.4 - 11.7 ltr/100 km (equal to 24.8 - 24.1 mpg), while jumping from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. Top speed goes as high as 312 km/h or 194 mph.
The new Porsche will also come equipped with TM fully controlled all-wheel drive and PSM Porsche Stability Management being further supported by new PTV Porsche Torque Vectoring available as an option, which makes the car "more agile and precise in its steering," as Porsche said.
The Porsche 911 Turbo will be offered in either Coupe or Cabriolet form and will arrive in German dealerships on November 21. The base price is 122,400 euros for the Coupe and 131,800 euros for the Cabriolet, VAT not included.
