As always, Porsche is busy teaching the old dog 911 new tricks – like hustling the GT3 RS engine inside the 911 S/T special edition for close to $300k or preparing the GTs for a quick nip and tuck for upcoming model years.
That's because the German sports car and SUV maker has perfected the 911 recipe over the years to, well, absolute perfection. They used each and every generation as a template for showing people what they could do in baseline form and then added extra layers on top of the cake to make it a towering delicacy.

And there's no need to take our word for granted. Look at the current 992 series format. The eighth generation of the iconic nameplate was launched in America, its home away from home because that's where the big bucks are, in late 2018. From then on, the two-door coupe/Targa top/ convertible model evolved with the usual Carrera (4/S/4S/GTS/4 GTS), Targa, Turbo, and Turbo S applications.

No worries, that was not all, as GT3 and GT3 Touring plus GT3 RS and Sport Classic or 911 Dakar versions rounded up the model lineup. And they haven't even started the flagship GT2 RS hype just yet. That version will most likely debut alongside the mid-cycle facelift (992.2), followed by even more special editions and limited masterpieces.

Last but not least, when all is said and done, the Porsche 911 is rumored to be the last of the ICE-powered Mohicans left standing, as the iconic nameplate will allegedly be the final Porsche model surviving the upcoming EV revolution that begins with the second-generation Macan EV.

According to whispers, the 911 will be the only ICE model left standing in Porsche's backyard as the company plans to fully electrify its lineup by 2030 – including the 718 series and the big Cayenne, plus the rumored full-size Porsche SUV. But what comes after 2030? For sure, Porsche needs to make the 911 worthwhile for the last adopters to consider it, right?

No worries; the imaginative realm of digital car content creators has already found a solution. According to the virtual artist behind Larson Design (aka lars_o_saeltzer on social media), who strives to bring to life his CGI vision of the next Porsche 911 (994) iteration, the company might try a return to origins – thus making it a tad smaller than today and also thoroughly lighter.

His vision, basically, expressed in the ideation sketches embedded below, is of a downsized Porsche 911 featuring a base 2.0-liter flat-six boxer engine and absolutely no electrification to try and keep it as simple as possible, with no added bulk from the MHEV, hybrid, or PHEV systems. So, what do you think – should Porsche go smaller and lighter to try and preserve the ICE-powered ethos for as long as possible?
