After the advent of the Porsche 64 in 1939, the automaker slowly but steadily imposed itself as one of the toughest cookies to crack in realm of motorsport. For all that, the model that put Porsche on the go-faster map was (and still is) the 911.
The Endurance Racing Edition might appear like a regular 911, and it is one, if I’m honest. However, its soul is different from other 911s on the street. The mad, mad craftsmen and artisans at Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur built this thing to celebrate the manufacturer’s countless motorsport accolades.

Available to British customers from £107,216, the limited-run Endurance Racing Edition will make its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the meeting place of all things fast and people that live and breathe motorsport. On the outside, the car wears a livery inspired by Porsche endurance racers.

It looks great, doesn’t it? Other than White, customers can get in Guards Red or Black. Once you open the door, the cabin reveals itself to you, boasting carbon fiber trim, a sporty steering wheel marked at 12 o’clock, red seatbelts, the lot. What I don’t find that attractive about the interior is that the center armrest has some writing on it: “Porsche Intelligent Performance.” Come again? What kind of meaningless speech is that? Nevertheless, this awkward little detail is forgiven when you think about the available performance.

Under the skin, this is a facelifted Porsche 911 Carrera S. In this regard, the engine bay is host to a 3.0-liter turbocharged flat-six with 414 horsepower and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. Thanks to the Sport Chrono Package and PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission, that output translates to 3.7 seconds to 60 mph (96 km/h), which is blistering performance by all accounts for a rear-wheel-drive car in this price range.

An addition you wouldn’t expect to find on a sports car meant to celebrate motorsport is, get this, an electric sliding sunroof. Other goodies the Endurance Racing Edition gets as standard are Porsche Dynamic Control with rear-wheel steering and a sports exhaust system, go-faster goodies that are optional on the garden variety Carrera S. But is it worth paying the £21,359 premium over the standard car?

You decide about that, but do bear in mind that the chassis upgrades total £7,172 of that premium.
