That feeling when you’re finally done customizing your car to look like one of the insane rides from any of the “Mad Max” movies. And then someone calls the cops on you.
That was the feeling of one “Mad Max” fan who found himself surrounded by armed police, ready to take him down at a moment’s notice. It happened in the English town of Herefordshire, when concerned neighbors noticed a sedan with a machine gun fitted on the hood and assorted zombie-fighting gear.

“Report of a car on A49 with machine guns mounted on it!? Thankfully it was just a breakdown used in a MadMax film,” the Herefordshire Police writes in a tweet accompanying 2 photos of the (totally awesome) car.

As one follower notes, the customization on the car is relatively new: back in January, the owner had just started work on it, as it’s clear in the second photo available at the bottom of the page. In other words, this isn’t the real deal, it’s not an actual “Mad Max” prop, but something a fan put together drawing inspiration from the movies.

Which, if you think about it, makes it even more awesome.

According to the police, inside the car, they found a very “polite” driver who cooperated with them and told them they had nothing to worry about. Everything on the car was fake, albeit very convincing. At the end of the brief interview, the police holstered their weapons and were off to fighting actual crime.

As you must know, the “Mad Max” franchise has spawned 4 massively successful films: 3 with Mel Gibson as the titular character (1979-1985) and a 2015 release with Tom Hardy as the lead. A fifth film, “Mad Max: The Wasteland,” has been announced but details on it are scarce.

All films are set in a post-apocalyptic future where gasoline has become the only currency. All vehicles are impressive conversions that render them war machines and represent the only means of surviving this violent world.
