It was a truly fiery morning for both firefighters in Christchurch, New Zealand and a motorized police officer, after the BMW the LEO was riding caught fire and was destroyed in just minutes.
Around 7:30 am local time, the police officer had just arrested a driver for possession of drugs and called for his colleagues to send in a car to collect the perpetrator. As the police car was on its way to the station with the freshly-arrested man, the officer got back aboard his 2007 BMW R1200RT-P (Police spec) and throttled away to see to his other duties on the streets of Christchurch.

However, after only few meters, he saw smoke coming from the underseat area of his bike. Quickly pulling over, he could only witness how his BMW caught on fire and started burning violently.

Those of you who have ever seen a bike burn know how fast the fire spreads and how extensive the destructive force of the flames is. The firefighters were fast to arrive at the scene to contain the fire, but was little they could do, as the motorcycle was completely destroyed.

The police officer was not harmed. A fuel leak or other electrical/ mechanical malfunction is most likely to have caused the blaze, and an investigation is underway.
