With proper maintenance and high-quality refits, luxury yachts can age like fine wine. That is undoubtedly the case of Kamalaya, a world-cruising superyacht that continues to turn heads and make waves even after a decade.
Its manufacturer aptly described Kamalaya as an adventure seeker. Officially launched in 2013, it started its thrilling life of ocean travel that same year. While most pleasure craft boasting this level of luxury stick to lazy vacations around the Mediterranean and the Caribbean, Kamalaya proved its worth by reaching as far as the Arctic Circle and Svalbard. As for the usual millionaire playgrounds, it visited them all, adding memorable voyages to remote, secretive locations.

A 180-foot (55 meters) beast, Kamalaya is part of one of the most exclusive yacht series, the Amels 180 Limited Edition. It combines exceptional exterior spaces created by the legendary Tim Heywood with sophisticated interiors designed by the acclaimed Remi Tessier.

The yacht's stunning luxury features include a touch-and-go helipad, a large jacuzzi with fantastic 360-degree views on the sun deck, an outdoor cinema, and multiple spots for al-fresco dining. The generous five-cabin configuration offers comfortable accommodation to 12 guests.

The master stateroom is like a self-contained residence, fitted with a modern fold-out balcony and large enough to include a separate office and a walk-through dressing room. Like any expedition vessel, Kamalaya also comes with a wide selection of water toys and tenders for further exploration.

Performance-wise, the steel vessel is equipped with twin MTU engines and Northern Lights generators for a maximum speed of 15.5 knots (17.8 mph/28.7 kph) and a 4,500-nautical mile (8,330 km) range. In early 2018, Kamalaya underwent a major refit, including a full repaint.

A yacht with such an adventurous soul had to be built for someone with a similar vision. Kamalaya was reportedly owned by Mark Scheinberg, the famous entrepreneur who co-founded the world’s largest online poker platform more than two decades ago.

The Amels Limited Edition yacht recently sold for a whopping €29,5 million ($33 million). This is not the first time when Kamalaya changed hands. In 2020, it was sold after the poker tycoon allegedly moved on to another spectacular water toy, the Synthetis.

This is the second time the ten-year-old vessel has started a new chapter. One of the reasons that convinced the mysterious buyer might be the significant price drop – a month ago, Kamalaya offered a €2 million price reduction, which isn't uncommon for superyachts in this price range.

The good news is that folks who want to travel and relax onboard this exclusive pleasure craft might still be able to charter it. Until now, weekly rates were somewhere around $300,000 in high season. Even ten years after its debut, the majestic Kamalaya has plenty to offer and the same adventurous spirit.
