This weekend, motorsports enthusiasts were really spoiled. After the Brands Hatch race in the 2013 DTM Championship on Saturday, Sunday it was time for the 24h Nurburgring race.
The race around the "Green Hell'' was the first one for the new BMW Z4 GT3 car. Driven by Maxime Martin, Yelmer Buurman, Andrea Piccini and Richard Goransson, the Bimmer did really good and finished second, just shy of the 20th win in the history of the competition for the Bavarian manufacturer.

"I am delighted for Bas Leinders’ team and the four drivers in the number 25 BMW Z4 GT3. Back in 2012, BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS narrowly missed out on a top-three finish in the Green Hell, and now it has its podium. The crew produced a flawless race, as did the drivers, so they really deserve second place," said Jens Marquardt, BMW Motorsport Director.

Unfortunately, Team Schubert had some bad luck, only one car finishing in the top ten. Claudia Hürtgen, Dirk Adorf, Jens Klingmann and DTM driver Martin Tomczyk drove the number 20 BMW Z4 GT3 and refused to give up, despite some setbacks.

"The way the number 20 BMW Team Schubert car fought back was also impressive. The team did not allow the huge misfortune at the start of the race to get them down, and battled back superbly to finish sixth," Marquardt added about Team Schubert.

Alongside the official teams from BMW Motorsport, there were also a lot of privately-run BMW cars on the track, that claimed a lot of first places in the D1T+D3T, SP10 GT4, SP 4+SP 5, SP 6, V4, V5 and V6 classes, bringing the total class victories achieved by BMW on this circuit to 162.
