With the 2012 F1 season now concluded, Italian tire manufacturer Pirelli, currently the sole provider of tires for the whole of F1, wants to know whether or not they will continue on, after the 2013 season. They signed a contract in 2010, and after the 2013 season things are not very clear to them.
Despite the fact that the deadline for a decision on the matter is June of next year, Pirelli would like to know in advance, in order to make the necessary internal adjustments. Their motorsport director, Paul Hembrey stated: "The deadline is June next year, but we would be keen to have a decision earlier than that [ . . . ] If we need to find 300-400 people a different job then we need to know earlier."

He went on to say that they “are starting to talk and finding out what the sport wants. With the cars changing dramatically for 2014 from a tyre manufacturer and producer's point of view, there is so much changing at once." If they do get confirmation for the 2014 season, as well, then they can start testing the more aggressive compounds, which will be better suited to the ‘different’ cars which are set to make their arrival two seasons from now.
