Few things in the automotive industry are more artistic than the Pirelli Calendar and it is now time to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
“The Cal” came to be in 1964, bringing the world artistic portraits of women, with nudity being on the menu. Throughout its history, the Pirelli Calendar has become a trademark of the refined, with some of its issues being auctioned for sums that could easy buy one a car.
Pirelli decided to go all retro for the Cal’s 50th anniversary. They’re publishing images from the family stash, which were taken by the late Helmut Newton in order to be introduced in the 1986 Pirelli Calendar.
However, these pictures never made it out of the archive, as Pirelli chose photographer Bert Stern, known for his Marlin Monroe works, over Newton, due to the latter’s delay of the work.
Pirelli’s Cal has been left out of the press between 1975 and 1983, but from then on, each and every year brought us one of these goodies. Check out the videos below for a pretty NSFW history of the Pirelli Calendar.
